Mason Jar Caramel Latte

Caramel Latte easily made in a mason jar with freshly brewed coffee, delicious caramel sauce and almond milk.

It’s no secret that I love coffee. Although, I do have an espresso machine that makes lattes and various coffee drinks, I still frequently make my lattes in a mason jar. It’s just easy and always tastes delicious!

To make this Caramel Latte, begin by brewing some of your favorite coffee. Make sure the brew is strong or you can use a shot of espresso if you have that option. As the coffee is brewing, place milk, caramel and sugar into a mason jar and place into microwave for 2 minutes. Extra sugar is optional! The caramel is enough sugar for me but sometimes I am just in the mood for something extra sweet so a teaspoon or so of granulated sugar can be added in.

The mason jar gets HOT in the microwave so be careful handling it. I just grab a dish towel to use as a barrier so my hands don’t get harmed. Pour your freshly brewed coffee into the mason jar and tightly screw lid on. Now, shake, shake, shake. Shake the mason jar for about 20 seconds to mix ingredients and build up a froth.

Pour your Caramel Latte into a coffee mug and top with whipped cream and extra caramel drizzle. The whipped cream and extra caramel is optional, just as the added sugar is. There is just something about a dollop of whipped cream on top of a latte that is so delicious!

Follow the recipe instructions below mamas and enjoy a warm, comforting Caramel Latte at home.

Caramel Latte made in a mason jar with freshly brewed coffee, delicious caramel sauce and almond milk.
Author:
Recipe type: Drinks
Serves: 1 latte
Ingredients
  • ¼ cup caramel sauce
  • 2 cups almond milk (regular milk can be used but almond is my favorite)
  • .5 cup coffee, brewed extra strong (shot of espresso will work)
  • teaspoon granulated sugar (optional if you like your coffee extra sweet)
  • Whipped cream
  • Caramel sauce to drizzle on top
Instructions
  1. Brew your coffee extra strong.
  2. As the coffee brews, place your milk, ¼ cup caramel sauce and sugar into a mason jar and put in microwave for 2 minutes. If you want it warmer, add 30 seconds - 1 minute.
  3. Remove from microwave carefully. This is HOT. Use a towel as a barrier to the hot mason jar.
  4. Pour .5 cup coffee in and put the mason jar lid on tight.
  5. Shake for about 20 seconds. Remember the mason jar is very hot so be careful.
  6. Pour into a coffee mug.
  7. Top with whipped cream and a caramel drizzle.
  8. Enjoy.

It is time to treat yourself and make this adorable but simple DIY Wooden Shower Caddy for a little ‘Me Time’. Fill the caddy with your favorite AVEENO® products like AVEENO® Skin Relief Body Wash and AVEENO® POSITIVELY SMOOTH® Shave Gel to help turn your daily shower into a mini spa-like experience.

As a busy mother of two young children, ‘Me Time’ is rare. Relaxing for a few moments in the shower is sometimes the only time of day that I am not catering to someone else. I decided to make this DIY Wooden Shower Caddy to help me relax just a bit and do something for myself.

On my weekly shopping trip to my local Walmart, I got an idea to make a pretty shower caddy that would look great in my bathroom. I wanted a small, white, wooden container with rustic handles and a chalkboard detail framed out beautifully. If I am making myself a gorgeous shower caddy, I would need some great products to go into it. A browse through the personal care aisle is just what I needed!

You can find the AVEENO® POSITIVELY SMOOTH® Shave Gel next to the razor section. I went with AVEENO® because not only is it the #1 recommended over the counter shave gel brand by Dermatologists in the USA, but it leaves my legs feeling silky smooth and fantastic.

More reasons to pick AVEENO® POSITIVELY SMOOTH® Shave Gel :

  • This specially formulated shave gel helps you shave less often and helps prevent shaving irritation, so your skin stays softer and smoother for longer.
  • It contains an exclusive combination of natural soy extract, oat, aloe, vitamins E and skin conditioners and has been shown to naturally minimize the reappearance of unwanted hair with continued use so you can shave less often. It immediately softens and conditions hair, making it easier for you to get a close, smooth shave.
  • It also helps protect skin against nicks, cuts, and even razor bumps.
  • It soothes your skin to help it look and feel healthier.
  • Offers a light, natural scent.
  • Gentle enough for sensitive skin.

A shower isn’t complete without a fantastic body cleanser. AVEENO® Skin Relief Body Wash is a favorite of mine because it is hypoallergenic and gentle on my sensitive skin. More reasons to pick AVEENO® Skin Relief Body Wash as your go-to body cleanser :

  • This creamy body wash gently but effectively cleanses while leaving itchy, dry skin feeling soothed and moisturized. The unique formula is designed to work with your skin to remove dirt and impurities without disrupting skin’s natural moisture barrier for skin that is soft, smooth and healthy-looking.
  • Has a new look and even gentler formula.
  • Fragrance-Free.
  • Dye-Free.
  • Soap-Free.

DIY Wooden Shower Caddy

I found some amazing products to fill my DIY Wooden Shower Caddy, now to make the caddy itself. I love DIY projects for many reasons but mostly because I can create exactly what I want to fit into my home seamlessly. You can pick your own caddy color, handles of choice and a frame that you love to create something that is all yours.

Wooden Shower Caddy Supplies needed:

  • 4- 2.5 inch by 12 inch utility wood (sides)
  • 5.25 inch by 12 inch utility wood (bottom)
  • 4.5 inch by 9.5 inch utility wood, cut in half (ends)
  • +/- 3.5 inch by 4.5 inch frame of choice
  • chalk paint
  • 2 small handles
  • white spray paint
  • fast acting multi-use adhesive
  • sandpaper
  • chalk to write with
  • small paint brush

Begin by putting your box together. Start with the sides and end pieces. Using your glue, adhere the sides and ends together by stacking 2 side pieces, gluing one side and using slight pressure until the glue begins to dry. Complete the frame.

You will notice that the end pieces do not match up perfectly. We want a space between the bottom and side pieces to act as a vent and to drain any excess water. Trapping moisture may cause mold so make sure you are leaving that excess space.

Glue the bottom piece on and let the box sit until glue is completely set. Once your glue is dry, smooth the box with sandpaper. Find a well ventilated area to spray paint. I like to go outside when doing this task. Shake your spray paint bottle and spray an even coat. Let dry.  Repeat until you get your desired result. I did 3 coats total with the spray paint. You can even use the sandpaper after painting to create a more weathered effect if you wish.

Once the paint has dried, glue the handles on each end piece. I eyeball what centered is but you can certainly measure each side to ensure both sides are even.

Create your chalkboard detail. Take your frame and pencil out the area that needs chalkboard paint by using the frame as a template. Two coats of chalkboard paint should be efficient. Let the paint dry and glue the frame over top. Write a message to yourself with the chalk on the chalkboard. I chose ‘Me Time’ as a reminder that I deserve time to myself everyday! ‘Bath’, ‘Wash’, ‘Blessed’ would also be great messaging to write.

Fill the DIY Wooden Shower Caddy with your must-have shower products. AVEENO® Skin Relief Body Wash and AVEENO® POSITIVELY SMOOTH® Shave Gel  are a must. Also add a pumice for your heels, a scented candle to fill the room with your favorite scent, a razor, hand towel and shower sponge.

Is shower time a relaxing daily moment for you? When do you find ‘Me time’?

Cupcake Bath Bombs

Cupcake Bath Bombs

Cupcake Bath Bombs

Cupcake Bath Bombs made with basic bath bomb ingredients pressed into a silicone cupcake liner mold topped with a frosting and sprinkles.

Cupcake Bath BombsI have always enjoyed making my own beauty products, especially bath bombs. Bath bombs can get expensive when purchasing from a retailer but you can easily make them at home with a few simple ingredients for a fizzy bath experience with the color and scent of your choosing!

Cupcake Bath Bombs Supplies

You will need a handful of special supplies and ingredients, the rest are things already in your kitchen. Most of the supplies can be found at a grocery or craft store. Amazon is also a great place to order what you need!

Supplies:

Ingredients:

Cupcake Bath BombsPlace  silicone liners into the muffin pan and begin mixing the Cupcake Bath Bombs. In a large mixing bowl, add 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup citric acid, 1/2 cup Epsom salts, 2 teaspoons of essential oil, 3 teaspoons olive oil and a drop of gel dye. I used a purple color today with fresh air scent for the base but pick any color and scent you would like!

Whisk the Cupcake Bath Bombs base ingredients well and spoon them into the silicone liners. Press down with your spoon and fill each until completely full. Make sure you firmly press the ingredients into the mold! Let the Cupcake Bath Bombs harden (wait a couple hours) and carefully remove from molds. Cupcake Bath BombsNext, begin your frosting for the Cupcake Bath Bombs. You need to work quickly with this step so get all your supplies ready. Prepare the pastry bag with large tip to the side, get the sprinkles out, and get to mixing! In a large mixing bowl, add 4 cups confectioners sugar, 3 tablespoons meringue powder with a couple drops of gel dye (I used pink today) and 5 tablespoons water. Use the hand or stand mixer to thoroughly mix until creamy and smooth.

Work quickly to use the spatula to place the frosting into the pastry bag and frost each Cupcake Bath Bomb. Frost these how you would any cupcake, just need to apply slightly more pressure because it is thicker than regular frosting. Drop sprinkles over top.

That is it! So easy and more affordable than store bought.

Cupcake Bath BombsDuring bath time, drop a Cupcake Bath Bomb in and let it fizz and dissolve. The frosting and sprinkles will take longer to dissolve but it all smells so ahhh-mazing and is such a great addition to your bath.

Cupcake Bath Bombs

I love, love, love giving little homemade gifts like this. Add your Cupcake Bath Bombs to cupcake boxes and give to your fellow mom friends or as a party favor for your teenage daughters Birthday party. You could even make these as part of a party activity for teen girls to make their own and take home. That would be super fun!

How to Schedule Your Time as a Work from Home Mom

How to Schedule Your Time as a Work from Home Mom, being a work at home mom, work at home #momlife

Work from Home Mom

The ultimate goal – being a work from home mom! Have your cake and eat it too right? It doesn’t feel like I’ve had any cake for quite awhile. And while we are being honest, sometimes it feels like the most unfair position to be in doesn’t it? The ‘you can have it all’ lie our generation has been fed is right up there with ‘yes, of course honey there is a Santa Claus!”

While, yes, we can have a family and can work…even sometimes from home, the lie we believe is what it looks like…a clean house, with kids quietly playing in clean clothes while we sit in our office of white walls, white desk, white laptop with a strategically placed vase of hot pink Gerber daisies while lunch, dinner and snacks are all prepped and ready to go in the fridge…

– oh yeah I almost forgot, we worked out, showered, did our hair and makeup and showed up to our white office in a pair of neatly pressed white slacks and a blouse.

How to Schedule Your Time as a Work from Home Mom, being a work at home mom, work at home #momlifeI’ve worked from home in some capacity for the last 9 years. That means when I started I had a 2, 5, 7 and 8 year old. Let me just tell you how productive I was most days…not very. I was blessed to be able to be home with them, and at that time was just working for a few extras the kids needed through a direct sales company.

Through the years what that looked like changed for me, and with it changed that nagging torment of being pulled between mom and lady boss. I decided to take the advice of ‘plan your work and work your plan.’ I always thought that was just a cute little thing people put out there – ahhhh who knew if you actually did that it worked?

And with it, came some of the successes I was craving.

How to Schedule Your Time as a Work from Home Mom, being a work at home mom, work at home #momlife

When I work, I work – and when I’m mom, I’m mom. And with it comes a peace…for the most part, because I’m still working on some of it, because we are all a work in progress right? So how did I get to this pretty ok place?

Boundaries.

And block scheduling.

I started using an hourly time sheet, which I have revised to a half hour time sheet, because honestly, sometimes an hour is a long time and although we may love to have an hour to dedicate to something, the season we are in doesn’t allow for it.

Get right with the season you are in and be ok with it. Now if you are like a friend of mine, she works from home with kids, one preschooler and one toddler and she works for a local company not herself. I talked to her recently and she said basically what I am saying, it’s about having a schedule you can keep to with where your kids are at the stage they are in. She works a lot in their play room so she can watch them, and finishes up whatever she missed during the day after they go to bed. One day they will be in school all day and she won’t need to do that, but for now it works for them. Get right with your season, know your limitations as well as your family’s and set some boundaries.

How to Schedule Your Time as a Work from Home Mom

I have a basic block schedule that I use as a template. Then, each week I break that down on our schedule. I am super visual and need to see it. I’m also a creative person so I do it in different colors – don’t get caught up in that if that isn’t you, just make the schedule. It’s always about discipline so get rid of all the distractions.

How to Schedule Your Time as a Work from Home Mom, being a work at home mom, work at home #momlifeMake a list of 3-5 things that for you and your family are not negotiable in your day. It could be exercise, quiet time for reading or devotions, reading books before nap time, taking a walk with your hubby – whatever they are put them on your schedule first. Make those happen because those are the things that actually fill you with joy and peace. Remember to know your season, because while reading is awesome, and reading for an hour may sound delightful, it’s better to read for 15 minutes and be ok with it then to not do it at all.

If you are anything like me, I really hope you are so I don’t sound super crazy, you’ll need to break down some areas with more detail, so you know what you are supposed to be doing during your ‘focused work’ time. This differs a little for me week to week but not much. Monday I work on writing blog posts in the morning. I write better in the morning before my brain takes in too much of the day and fizzles out.

I know that Monday mornings are for writing blog posts. What changes is what I’m writing about and who I’m writing for. I keep those details in a separate regular weekly planner. Yes, I ‘reduce it to the ridiculous’ as my husband would say. I need that. I know that. I get distracted by every little everything…ooohhhhh shiny object…you get the picture. I have specific times for social media and specific purposes for it so I don’t get distracted and start scrolling.
Isn’t that one of our biggest distractions these days?

How to Schedule Your Time as a Work from Home Mom, being a work at home mom, work at home #momlifeI also have scheduled times to check emails and blog post comments. If I responded to everything as soon as it came in I would spend all day responding and getting distracted and scrolling and whoops there went all the time I had for ‘focused work’ today – not cool!

The amount of time I spend filling out my schedules is about 30 minutes a week. And it saves me so much time throughout the week it is worth every minute! Plus, it allows me to connect with everyone in our family and find out what their schedules are and what their expectations are for me. Like pick them up from sports and drive a friend home, or do they have a ride –that could be the difference of 40+ minutes in my day. Does my hubby have any late night meetings so he won’t be able to contribute to the shuttle service we run … you get it right?

And while our kiddos are getting older, we still have one of the four that can’t be left home alone yet, so that also comes into play – who will be home for him or who will he be with.

I put any appointments I have on my hourly schedule sheet for the week so I can see exactly how much time I have around that time to either work or do one of my non-negotiables. If I have a dentist appointment that will take 2 hours including travel time, maybe I will swap my morning reading time with focused work time and read in the waiting room instead. Being able to see it all laid out makes it easier to shuffle things around.

How to Schedule Your Time as a Work from Home Mom, being a work at home mom, work at home #momlife

We are all individuals in our individual seasons of motherhood. What works for me today with four kids in school all day, wouldn’t have worked for me 7 years ago. If you have little ones at home, consider swapping play dates with a friend. She has the kids for two hours once a week and you have them two hours once a week. Even if she doesn’t work from home she will love having some time to get her things done without someone hanging off her leg. However you decide to schedule your day, make it count.

Be all in all in your mommy time, all in your wife time, and all in your work time.

Being all in- present, focused will stretch your day. It will make it worth it, it will make it less stressed, and it will make you be able to ‘have it all’ even if you do it in your leggings with your hair in a messy bun at your sticky kitchen table.

Pumpkin Chai Latte , pumpkin latte, chai recipe, #chaitea , #pumpkin, #fallrecipeWe are going to be using a large mason jar to create this latte. Pour your milk into mason jar with pumpkin spice, pumpkin puree, and maple syrup. If you like your lattes extra sweet, sprinkle in some sugar. Cook in the microwave for 2 minutes. This will be hot so use a kitchen towel as a barrier as you remove the latte from microwave.

As the milk and spices cook in the microwave, brew your favorite coffee extra strong. When the mason jar comes out of the microwave, pour 1/2 cup of coffee into the jar and place the lid on making sure it is tight.

Shake the mason jar! The latte will begin to froth.

Pour into a coffee mug and place a chai tea bag inside to let steep. You can sprinkle with cinnamon like I did today. After a few minutes, remove tea bag and stir well. Whipped cream can be added on top if you like.

Fall is fast approaching and I have my list of Fall Style Must Haves to share. As a busy mom, I need a wardrobe that is affordable, comfortable and functional and that is exactly what is on my must have list.

I am at that point in my life (motherhood) that I look for clothing that is multi-functional. I rarely buy what is in at the moment and lean towards pieces I know  I will wear over and over again. Look for clothes that fit you well and make you feel comfortable. Add a bit of glam with a statement piece of jewelry just to help you feel a bit more dressed up. Every piece of clothing that I am wearing today are fall basics and I will be wearing all of these throughout the fall.

As a mom, one of the most exciting times of the year is back to school.  Just the mention of ‘back to school’ is nostalgic, don’t you think?  Add in your own kiddos and the excitement of the opportunities the year ahead holds for them and it’s almost too much to handle.  No matter what grade your kids are heading into or how many little ones you may still have at home it is a super fun time of year.  OK, I guess I shouldn’t pretend I’m not a little excited to have some order restored to our routines as well!  As much as we love lazy mornings in our pajamas and afternoons at the pool there comes a time of summer where we all just need something new and exciting!

We don’t do a ton of back to school shopping; however there is at least one day I haul the kiddos off to stock up on the items on the list their teacher sent them as well as the traditional back to school shoes.  But that’s all for the kids.  What I get excited about is starting to think of new creative and clever ways to make their days away from me special.

That’s where stocking up our pantry comes into play.  This is the fun part for me as a mom, knowing I have everything in my supply to keep everyone fed and happy.   I love knowing they will be excited when they open their lunch box in the middle of the day because it contains their favorite things. There is nothing worse than having them come home from school with half their lunch still in their box – so frustrating!  That’s why we headed off to our local ShopRite to load up on all of our favorites!

We love shopping at this new ShopRite store not too far from home.  They had everything we needed to stock up for a successful week of back to school meals.  I love how easy it is to maneuver through this store with the wide well marked aisles.  It’s always so easy to find what I’m looking for; they even have signage partway through the aisle to highlight items you could easily miss.  Wandering the aisles of this ShopRite made me so excited to create some new fun goodies for the kids’ lunches this year while grabbing some of our staples like Jif Natural Creamy Peanut Butter and Smucker’s Strawberry Preserves, along with Ziploc® Sandwich Bags.

Check out the so many ways to PB&J this Back To School on ShopRite.com !

The classic Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich is a sure win in our house.  I may even sneak one on occasion when the kids are at school! As a mom, nothing is better than knowing your kids are getting a good dose of protein with the sweetness they love – coupled with using the same trusted brands you and your mom have used for years and years.  I can still remember Smucker’s Strawberry Preserves in my mom’s kitchen!  I’m not sure who first thought to put those two ingredients together, but they sure were genius.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Mini Cookie Sandwiches

Over the past few years our kids have really been into having a lunch of ‘snacks’ some days.  They love the bento box concept and I must admit it is fun to put together a bunch of things they enjoy that aren’t necessarily a sandwich.  But who can leave the PB&J out, really?  So I started brainstorming on other ways to still incorporate these time honored ingredients into their lunch boxes.

That’s when I came up with these Peanut Butter & Jelly Mini Sandwich Cookies.  They are the perfect sweet treat to pop into their lunch in a Ziploc® Sandwich Bag! Using the Jif Natural Creamy Peanut Butter with Smucker’s Strawberry Preserves made these cookies PB&J perfection!  I love packing their lunches with Ziploc® Sandwich bags because I know their food will stay fresh and it won’t leak!  These adorable cookies even double as a great afterschool snack or possibly packaged in Ziploc® sandwich bags for a school bake sale!  They are as delicious as they are adorable.Let’s get cooking these Peanut Butter & Jelly Mini Cookie Sandwiches! Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. Grab a mixing bowl and hand or stand mixer. Mix your room temperature butter, egg and peanut butter thoroughly. Add your sugars, baking powder and vanilla extract. Lastly, add in the flour for your peanut butter cookie dough.

Place parchment paper over a cookie sheet and dust with a sprinkle of flour. Place the cookie dough on top and prepare your rolling pin by spreading some flour onto it. Now, roll out the cookie dough about 1/4 inch thick. Add a sprinkle of flour as needed. Use a 1 inch cookie cutter to make as many cutouts as possible. Now, instead of picking up each cutout and moving it, you want to remove the excess cookie dough which can be rerolled for another batch of mini peanut butter cookies. Bake cookies for 12 minutes.

Once the cookies have cooled, you can create your Peanut Butter & Jelly Mini Cookie Sandwiches. I placed the peanut butter in a pastry and the strawberry preserve in another pastry bag to help me out today but spreading with a knife will work just fine. Flip the cookies over and put a dollop of peanut butter on half the cookies and strawberry preserve on the other half. Smush the peanut butter and strawberry preserve cookies together and sprinkle with a touch of confectioners sugar to complete.

Yum

It is well known that 20 Mule Team® Borax is commonly used in the laundry room but today I am sharing 10 Ways to Clean Your Kitchen with Borax. From the floors to kitchen sink to coffee maker and fridge. We are cleaning it all with just one product!

I recently saw a hilarious but very accurate meme on social media. You may have seen it, ” Cleaning your house with kids is like brushing your teeth while eating cookies.” Oh how true it is! My house is wrecked after the kids being on summer vacation and I am doing some much needed scrubbing.

To start my “back to school” cleaning mission, I stopped by my local Meijer to pick up Borax which is found down the laundry aisle with “additives”. I have two major reasons to reach for Borax to help clean my messy house. Borax is a Multi-Purpose Household Cleaner that can used in a variety of ways and is an “All Natural” product. Plus, it gets the job done!

I also picked up a set of gloves, lemon, sponge, spray bottle, small bucket and vinegar. Oh and coffee. The coffee is for my motivation, not cleaning.

I recommend visiting Borax online to get more cleaning inspiration and see all the ways you can use Borax in your home to help you can clean.

10 Ways to Clean Your Kitchen with Borax

The kids are in school, coffee is brewing and this mom is ready to get cleaning! I did a quick reorganization of the counter space and got out my supplies.

  1. Garbage Disposal. Place 3 tablespoons Borax down the garbage disposal, wait 15 minutes and run lukewarm water through. You can add some lemon peels and turn the garbage disposal on to help clean and freshen up the sink.
  2. Sink.  As you wait for the Borax in the garbage disposal to settle, make a paste to help clean the entire sink. Use .5 cup Borax to 1/8 cup lemon juice to create the paste and place on a sponge and scrub.
  3. Dishwasher. Using your paste, scrub the inside door of the dishwasher. Sprinkle Borax at the bottom and run cycle as normal.
  4. Garbage. Place 3 tablespoons Borax on the bottom of the trash can to help deodorize.
  5. Coffee Maker. Sprinkle Borax on coffee maker and wipe clean with a sponge. Run equal parts vinegar and water through a half a brew cycle. Let sit for 1 hour and complete the brew cycle. Run one more cycle with water only.
  6. Counter Tops. In a bucket, mix .5 cup Borax to 1 gallon hot water. Scrub counters with a sponge and wipe clean.
  7. Floor. Using the bucket solution, scrub floors.
  8. Pots and Pans. The bucket solution can also help clean your pots and pans.
  9. Fridge. Dip your sponge in a solution of 1 quart water to 1 tablespoon Borax to help clean and deodorize messes in the fridge. There were some mysterious spills in my fridge that are now gone!
  10. Unclog a drain. Have a clog? Place .5 cup Borax with 2 cups hot water into the drain, let sit 15 minutes and run hot water to help unclog.

You now have 10 Ways to Clean Your Kitchen with Borax but that is just the beginning of how Borax can help you get your house clean! Have Borax help you clean the microwave, oven, china and take to the rest of the house. Use it on mattresses, in bathrooms and the laundry room! The list goes on and on so visit Borax to find more uses.

Avocado Hummus with fresh avocados, chickpeas, olive oil and lime. What makes this dip extra special is the roasted ingredients of garlic and jalapeno paired with GOOD THiNS – The Wheat One- Ancient Grains. Sprinkle some cayenne over top to make this snack complete.

My brother introduced me to spicy Avocado Hummus a few months back while vacationing in Orlando with the family. Avocado Hummus is creamy, flavorful and a smart snacking option.  I wanted to recreate this amazing dip with a little less spice to make it kid-friendly. Let me tell you, homemade trumps store bought any day.

I stopped by my local Kroger to grab all the ingredients needed for todays recipe. I started in the produce to snag up garlic, a jalapeno, lime and avocados. To pick good avocados, look for dark green color without mushy parts and remove the stem. If that part of avocado where you just removed the stem is dark brown, choose another. You want it to be a light yellowish tint.

Now, time to grab the garbanzo beans. What is the difference between a chickpea and garbanzo bean? They are the same thing. I think it depends where you live for what you call these beans. I call them chickpeas but on canned goods, you will probably see garbanzo.

Lastly, something to dip with is needed so take a stroll down the cracker aisle to find GOOD THiNS for a wholesome, crispy baked snack.

Why pick GOOD THiNS? GOOD THiNS start with real ingredients combined with enticing flavors (like garlic, spinach and sweet potato) and baked thin and crispy without any artificial flavors, colors, cholesterol, partially hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup. My favorite GOOD THiNS include:

    • Sweet Potato GOOD THiNS are made with real sweet potatoes.

Avocado Hummus

You know how some foods just make you do a little happy dance. I know I’m not the only one. This Avocado Hummus does just that. It is creamy and satisfying and just hits the spot that makes you dance.

Begin this recipe by preheating your oven to a broil. Slice your jalapeno in half and remove the outer skin from the garlic cloves. I removed the seeds of the jalapeno today to reduce the heat and make this a kid-friendly snack. If your whole family loves spicy food, you can certainly leave the seeds intact. Place ingredients on a baking sheet and place in the oven for 10 minutes to get them roasted.

Do you have to roast these ingredients? No, but it does add a really nice dimension of flavor to this hummus and adds some ‘M’s to the yum. Yummmm!

Place your avocados, lime juice, olive oil, salt, drained garbanzo beans and roasted ingredients into the food processor and blend until creamy. This should take only a minute. If you need to thin out the hummus, add just a pinch of water and blend more.

Place the hummus into the fridge until chill and sprinkle some cayenne over top to serve. Grab your GOOD THiNS and start dipping. We used GOOD THiNS Ancient Grains today but your favorite flavor will work beautifully.

Yum
