6 Ways to Maximize Family Time

Spending time together is the most aspect of family life. Finding that time isn’t always so easy with bus schedules and so much going on in day to day life. Today, I am sharing 6 Ways to Maximize Family Time so you can find a few ways to find a better balance to spend more time with your family.

1. Eat Together

My number one way to maximize family time is by eating dinner together every night of the week. Family dinner is so important. Dinner is an opportunity to talk about how everyone’s day went- the good and bad, talk about upcoming plans or laugh about a funny family moment that recently occurred. Plus, you have the opportunity to create more memories and maybe a few more of those funny family moments. Dinner doesn’t have to be a homemade meal every night. Sometimes, bringing home a pizza or tossing a frozen meal in the oven works fine. The important thing is togetherness.

2. Clean Together

Cleaning together is a great way to get all the household chores done quickly and also spend time together as a family at the same time. One person cannot be responsible for all the chores around the house. Task everyone in the family with chores and conquer cleaning together. One of the best products I have found that helps maximize cleaning time is the Bona Quick Clean System. Plus, Bona is light and easy to use with a height adjustable mop so the kids can help clean the floors.

Bona Quick Clean System

The Bona Quick Clean System comes with a premium microfiber mop, disposable wet cleaning pads, and disposable dry dusting pads to suit your needs. The water-based cleaning solution and Greenguard Gold certification ensure a safe product for your family, pets and our planet that is streak-free, residue-free and makes cleaning more efficient.

What You Get

    • Microfiber mop with soft, flexible corners and extra large mop head that maneuvers around furniture and won’t scratch baseboards. Can be used on multiple surfaces from tile, hardwood and laminate.

    • Wet pads infused with Bona cleaner with locking strips on an extra large pad for quick and easy cleaning. Easy detachment allows quicker cleaning to go from dusting to mopping.

    •  Dusting pads with 3D fibers with locking strips. The fluffy fibers work great for picking up dust and pet hair.

3. Bond Over a Hobby

Find a hobby that the entire family loves to do and do it together consistently. At least once a month, plan to do that hobby. Go swimming, hiking, ride bikes, see the newest movie release in theaters, do a painting class… just for a few ideas. My family are all foodies (not shocking, I know) so we enjoy a monthly outing to a restaurant or food truck event.

4. Keep a Schedule

Set a schedule and keep that schedule. A family calendar is a great way to do so. Schedule sports, activities, appointments and everything between. Also schedule family time (more on family time below).  A schedule will help reduce stress and ensure that time is being made weekly for the family to bond.

5. Set Boundaries

We are all busy people with a lot of things to balance out in life. You have to learn how to set boundaries for work, school and any activity that is away from your home and family. By boundaries, I refer to not working too much overtime or bringing work home with you, scheduling personal appointments when they won’t interfere with your family time and so on. I have worked out my family schedule to have Tuesdays open for everyone. There are no sports, no after school activities… nothing. This way, if the dog needs a vet appointment or I need to get in to get my haircut or whatever comes up, can be scheduled on Tuesday without too much craziness at home or too much time away from the family. Setting boundaries also refers to being able to say “NO”. Say no to covering someone else’s shift at work, say no to too many after school activities. Just learn to say no when you stretched too thin.

6.  Regular Family Time

That schedule we talked about in #4 includes family time. Mark your calendar for family movie night on Friday or pizza and board games on Saturday. Schedule fun things to do away from the house like the Farmer’s Market, going to the river, going to an event in the community and whatever else your family enjoys. That important part is that you are together as a family enjoying life. Just as you are committed to going to work everyday or the kids not missing a day of school, you have to commit to this time scheduled also.

What are some ways you maximize family time? Let me know in the comments below and make sure to visit the Bona website for more info on how the Bona Quick Clean System can help you make cleaning time more efficient.
