Cold Shoulder Spring Trend

March 8, 2017 by Amber

Spring is here!

Okay. Well, Spring is trying here in Cincinnati. We are at that odd snow one day followed by 70 degrees the next day and snow again right after crazy weather pattern. When I get up in the morning I don’t know if I’m wearing flip flops or snow boots.

The cold shoulder sweaters and tops appeared last year and are in full swing again for Spring and I love it.

When shopping this trend, look for tops that aren’t too revealing. You don’t want a low cut front or back. Let the peak of your shoulders be the main focus.  The top I found here in the photos was actually a TJMaxx find and only cost me $14.99. Winning! I also have a few more cold shoulder pieces I love, one that I just picked up from the Loft. Like this top here, they are all appropriate enough for casual wear or for an office work environment. As a mom, that is what I look for in clothes. Versatility, affordability, casual but still on trend.

In the image above, I have on my favorite Lucky Brand black flats that are great for work, taking the kids to the park and match half my closet. Love these shoes. I brought in just two accessories. One being my signature Engravable Disc Necklace in Rose from Stella & Dot. The other a floppy hat just for fun. Plus my curls are day 2 post wash so a hat seemed like a great idea. Since the top is slightly flowy, I threw on skinny jeans to balance the wider top.

Jen from JCS Modern Day Photography here in Cincinnati was kind enough to go out to the railroad tracks and take some fun photos of myself and we squeezed in some great family photos. Although the children weren’t having it at all. One cried the whole time and the other was acting like getting his pictures taken was just pure torture.  Motherhood.

Take the look from daytime running errands with the kids to date night with the husband by switching out the shoes. Throw on some black wedges and you are ready. No need to change accessories or anything else.

Are you rocking the cold shoulder trend yet? Which top is your style? I’m really loving the floral flowy look right now.

INGREDIENTS:

12 ounces dark chocolate, (chips or bar)

1 cup peanut butter baking chips

1/4 cup peanuts, (chopped )

INSTRUCTIONS:

Chop peanuts. If using a chocolate bar instead of chocolate chips, chop into pieces.

Place parchment paper onto a baking sheet.

Melt the chocolate and peanut butter in separate microwavable safe bowls or glasses. I like to use large coffee mugs. Melt in 30 seconds increments, stir between each until both are melted.

Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the parchment covered baking sheet. Use a spatula to spread the chocolate to 1/4 inch thickness.

Use a spoon to place the melted peanut butter chips on top in 4 lines.

Immediately take a knife or skewer to create the swirl pattern with the peanut butter.

Sprinkle chopped peanuts over top.

Chill for 15 minutes, break into 16 pieces and serve.

  • Cheesy Ham and Potato Soup is the ultimate comfort soup made with loads of ham, chunks of potatoes, carrots, celery, garlic, chicken broth, milk and cheese. See the full post by clicking through profile @amber_food_lifestyle and visiting Simply Made Recipes. Search : ham soup.

#soup #recipe #yum #cheese #potato #ham #instayum #foodie #feedme
INGREDIENTS:

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1/2 yellow onion, (finely diced)

2 celery, (diced)

2 carrots, (peeled and diced)

3 garlic cloves, (minced)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

4 cups chicken broth

1 cup whole milk

2 large Russet potatoes, (peeled and diced)

2 cups ham, (diced)

1 bay leaf

2 cups cheddar cheese, (shredded)

sea salt

ground pepper

chives

INSTRUCTIONS:

Rinse the celery, carrots and potatoes. Peel the carrots and potatoes.

Dice the celery, carrots, potatoes and onion. Mince the garlic cloves.

Dice the ham. If using leftover ham, rinse off any glaze beforehand.

Melt the butter in a soup pot on the stovetop on a medium-high heat.

Add carrots, celery and onion to the pot. Stir and cook until onion is translucent.

Add garlic and stir until fragrant (about 1 minute). Immediately add the flour followed by broth and milk. Stir well.

Add ham and potatoes. Stir and bring to a boil.

Salt and pepper to taste. I find salt isn't necessary in this recipe but you may like it.

Reduce to a simmer and add a bay leaf. Simmer for about 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender when poked with a fork. Time can vary depending on the size the potatoes were diced.

Remove bay leaf. Add a cup and a half of the cheese. Stir. Turn off heat and serve.

Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top with chives and freshly ground pepper
