Drugstore Dry Skin Makeup Routine

The weather is changing which means it is time to switch up some makeup products to change with it. I am sharing some of my current favorite products with a Drugstore Dry Skin Makeup Routine that is easy and affordable.

Naturally, I have pretty dry skin year round but the colder months can really take a toll. Without the right products on my face, I see cracking, peeling and just an overall flakiness and it can be horrible and sometimes even embarrassing. Makeup is supposed to help make you feel beautiful and your best self. Not like a lizard shedding its skin. There are products out there that can help moisturize the skin and give the appearance of a smooth texture on the face to help you feel like your gorgeous self again.

Drugstore Dry Skin Makeup Routine

This Drugstore Dry Skin Makeup Routine is very easy and I made sure everything can be found at Target so it won’t break the bank either. Each product below has been tried and tested by me ( the one with the extreme dry skin).

Lotion

During the warmer months, I love using Olay Complete with SPF. It works well for me with the SPF, lightweight formula that doesn’t clog my pores. When the weather gets cooler, switching to CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion AM with SPF 30 is just what my skin needs to stay hydrated. The CeraVe is gentle and fragrance free and a little heavier than my Olay but still great on my sensitive skin.

Primer

A good primer can really help smooth the skin before makeup application. Primer will also help makeup last longer. Make sure your primer is not a matte finish. Matte finish with dry skin can be problematic and make those dry spots stand out which is not what we want. I love the NYX Professional Angel Veil and use it year round. The formula doesn’t clog my pores and goes on easy while drying quickly.

Foundation

There are two foundations I have found that hydrate my face really well to reduce the appearance of flaky skin. One is the Maybelline Fit Me Dewy and Smooth. Make sure you get the dewy and smooth one in the shade that works for you. Stay clear of the matte line because as we talked about with the primer, matte products can be bad news for dry skin. I do wish there were more shades available but there should be a shade that works for you! I wear the classic ivory 120 and it blends flawlessly.

The second foundation I like for dry skin is Revlon Color Stay for normal/dry skin. There is a formula made for oily skin so double check to make certain you have the dry skin formula. This foundation has full coverage and works great to conceal blemishes. I also love the pump bottle for easy application and less waste.

I also recommend a good foundation brush. Right now I am using the EcoTools Wonder Color Finish Foundation Brush and it works beautifully for building fuller coverage on foundation and smooths great.

Concealer

Concealer is a must at my age to reduce the appearance of dark circles under the eyes. I have tried many concealers and many tend to crack and just be too drying. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind is the only formula I have found at a reasonable price point that gives good coverage that doesn’t cause cracking. The applicator is easy to use but I’m not sure the formula reduces the appearance of wrinkles as it claims but still a great product in my book.

Powder

I like to use a loose powder in the few spots on my skin that do produce some oil to reduce shine that may occur throughout the day. I don’t think you have to have a powder with dry skin but it does help makeup last longer and as I said, can help reduce shine on oily spots you may have. I am wearing Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Loose Powder at the moments and it leaves my skin smooth. Maybelline Fit Me also has a great formula that I have worn in the past and loved that also gives some extra coverage when needed.
